本日も前回に引き続き、他動詞用法です。

(7) give ～ a push: 押す、ひと突きする

・"Go," my brother said to me and gave me a little push.
(「さあ、行け。」兄はこう私に言うと、軽く背中を押した。)

・Give your mind a push in a positive direction today.
(今日はポジティブに考えていきましょう。)

【研究】1. give ～ a + 形容詞 + push の構文も取れます。2. 「うながす」「導く」などの意味で比ゆ的に使用できます。3. 前置詞 to や toward なども共起できます。

(8) give ～ a rub: こする

・Give your hair a good rub with a towel, then brush or comb it - parting it as you normally do - and now don't touch it with any sort of implement again until it's dry.
(タオルでしっかり髪を拭いたあと、ブラッシングして、くしでとかしてください。(いつものように分け目をつけてかまいません。) そのあとは、乾くまで絶対に触らないでください。)
