本日は、「損をする」を意味する lose を扱います。

・Rothermere said he had lost heavily on the stock market that day. (その日、Rothermere は、株式市場で大損した、と語った。)

【研究】① これは lose + O + M の O が省略された形です。② M の構成パターンとしては前置詞 on, at, in, by などが可能です。③ by では by doing の形も取れますが、目的語を取らずに by doing を取るパターンはあまり多くヒットしませんでした。
