本日は「支払う」「売り渡す」を意味する give です。この構文では「交換」を意味する前置詞 for が必須になります。

(1) ①[give + 代金 + for + 物] あるいは [give + 人 + 代金 + for + 物] :

・You promised to give twenty-five thousand dollars for the new church.
(新しい教会に 25,000 ドルお支払いいただくよう約束されました。)

【研究】1. 上記の構文は「支払う(pay)」を意味します。2. 「人」のみ省略可能です。3. for doing...のように動名詞を取ることもできます。

(2) [give + 物 + for + 代金] あるいは [give + 人 + 物 + for + 代金] :

・...gave the used car away for two thousand dollars.
(その中古車を 2000 ドルで売った。)

【研究】1. 上記の構文は「売る(sell)」意味します。2. 「人」のみ省略可能ですが、「人」を省略すると Google での本用法のヒット率が下がります。(1) と同じようには使用できないようです。
