201000506 譲歩を表す as の用法

今回は前回の come what may の流れを踏んで、「譲歩」を表す as の表現を扱います。

一般に文語的と考えられていますが、構文によっては必ずしもそうとは言い切れないようです。また、as の後ろに来る名詞 (主語) は「限定的」あるいは「総称的」なものが来ます。よって、通常は、不定冠詞を伴う名詞は来れません。

・Good

【参考】Google で用例検索すると、As good as S + V の構文もかなりヒットします。

→文尾に副詞 though を加えることで「譲歩」の意味を明確にしています。

→現在分詞が来ることもあります。tired のような形容詞化した過去分詞が来ることはありますが、明確に受動態の一部になっている過去分詞の例は現段階では見つかっていません。よって積極的な使用は避ける方が良いでしょう。

→この無冠詞の名詞を伴う用法は本当に用例数が少ないのが特徴です。これに関しては積極的な使用は避けるべきでしょう。

→1. 上記の例では、as + 名詞 + do(does,did) のように代動詞を置く点に注意しましょう。2. 代動詞の部分に助動詞 (will, may, might など) が来ることもあります。

・Change your mind as you will, I won't talk about it any more. (君が考え方を変えても、それについてはこれ以上話すつもりはない。)

→動詞句が前置されている点に注意しましょう。
