本日は番外編として apparently の用法 (文修飾) を扱います。これは「見たところ～らしい」、「明らかに」、「実際は」の 3 つの意味があります。

1.見たところ～らしい:

【研究】①「(実際はさておき) 見たところ～だ」を意味しているので、事実関係が明示されている文脈では避ける方が良いでしょう。② Wiktionary では "Seemingly; in appearance only." と定義しています。

2.明らかに:

【研究】①文脈上、事実関係が明示されていればこの訳を使用します。②ランダムハウス英和では「この意味では通例 evidently を用いる」と説明しています。しかし、こう言い切れないところが難しいところです。③ Cambridge Dictionaries Online では "according to what seems to be true or what is likely, based on what you know (真実と思われるものまたは起こる可能性が高いものに照らして、知っていることに基づき)" としか定義していません。Cambridge Dictionary Online: Free English Dictionary and Thesaurus - Cambridge University Press

3:(予測や見かけとは違い) 実際は:
