20101012 make の用法#28_(材料 [原料]) から作る(3)

本日も前回の用法の続きです。

1. 一般用法は下記のとおりです。

・Like honey bees, bumble bees make cells of wax. (ミツバチのように、マルハナバチもロウで巣を作ります。)　Distinguishing Between Bees and Wasps | Stockport Pest Control Wasps Nests ￡32.00

【研究】一般に of は「材料」が来ます。

・This bag is made from 12 recycled bottles. (このバッグは 12 本のリサイクル用のボトルで作られています。) The Herbal Path » “This bag is made from 12 recycled bottles.”

【研究】一般に from は「原料」が来ます。

2. of と from の用法が区別が曖昧なものもあります。

・be made of stone (316,000 件), be made from stone (46,300 件)

・be made of leather (1,330,000 件), be made from leather (1,470,000 件)

【研究】英語基本動詞辞典では上記の 2 つを例として挙げています。leather はほぼ同数の使用例ですが、stone はやや差が出ています。辞書の説明はそのまま鵜呑みにせずに必ず用例検索しましょう。
