本日は get off の用法を扱います。これには「自動詞用法」と「他動詞用法」があります。

(1) 自動詞用法:

・I got off from the office almost 6:00 in the evening.
(私は夕方 6:00 頃に会社を出た。)

【研究】1. 「出発する」を意味します。2. get off from + [出発する場所] を表すことができます。

・He is likely to get off with a small fine.

【研究】1. 「(刑罰などを) 逃れる」を意味します。2. 通常、get off with + [罰金など] の形をとります。

(2) 他動詞用法:

・Sometimes though, we tend to get off the topic and that's not good.
(しかし、ときに我々は話題から逸れてしまうが、これは良いことではない。)
