本日は「到達」を表す get の用法です。本日は雑多な用法を集めて解説します。

(1) get at の用法:
・It terrifies me that the child's parents did not have the gun locked in a safe and secure place where the child could not get at the gun.
(両親がその銃を安全な場所に保管し、その子の手が届かない場所を確保していなかったことに私は驚いています。)

【研究】1. 上記の例は get + 人 + on the phone (電話で人と連絡がつく) の例です。基本動詞辞典では前置詞活用辞典から例を挙げて、get at + 人 + on the telephone を説明していますが、実際に用例検索をかけると、at を伴う用法は非常に少ないのが現状です。よってこの意味で get at を使用するのは避ける方が良いでしょう。

・I understand what you are getting at, but I disagree with you.
(あなたが言わんとしていることは理解できますが、同意はできません。)

【研究】「～をのほのめかす」を意味しています。上記は間接疑問の例ですが、直接疑問 "What are you getting at?" は口語でも頻繁に使用されます。

(2) get nowhere の用法:
・You will get nowhere with the company...
(その会社とはうまくいかないよ…。)

【研究】1. 「進歩がない」あるいは「何もならない」を意味します。2. get nowhere 以外に、上記のように get + 人 + nowhere の構文も可能です。

(3) get there の用法:
・It's okay - I got there in the end. And I agree.
(そうだね、やっと理解できたよ。確かに君の言うとおりだ。)
